Position Summary:
The Senior Storage Systems Engineer plans and manages the installation, configuration and tuning of SAN and storage hardware and software. Additional responsibilities include maintaining partnerships and leveraging market technologies associated with SAN vendors, product enhancements and product roadmap. Developing, implementing and overseeing policies and procedures to ensure consistent storage provisioning, uptime, regulatory compliance and data protection. Managing and providing current disk storage usage statistics and providing future projected growth estimates.
Responsibilities
Provide maintenance and support of the fabric (Cisco) and arrays (EMC VMAX) as required for their day-to-day operation and utilization for disaster recovery activities (SRDF -A).
Perform any required storage provisioning.
Perform planned maintenance activities on an established cycle.
Maintain accurate and up to date inventory & documentation.
Work with the storage engineering team to standardize the storage maintenance, provisioning and decommissioning process.
Perform planned upgrades in conjunction with the storage engineering team.
Monitoring and troubleshooting issues in the fabric, on the arrays and/or with other teams.
Work with storage requests, incident tickets and changes in a timely manner and work with Helpdesk to resolve issues.
Perform Root Cause Analysis of Major Issues in the Storage and Fabric environment
Coordinate and review the capacity needs based on information from the monitoring tools and schedule to add resources.
Proactively participate in storage support issues by identifying, researching, and applying solutions to a wide variety of technical issues.
Work closely with EMC and internal customers, interfacing with management personnel, to accomplish requested technical tasks.
Respond to assigned Storage Engineering service requests and provide timely status updates on the progress of ongoing requests.
Serve as a technical contact on projects requiring the provisioning of storage.
Follow policies and procedures for change, problem, and incident management.
Required Experience
5+ years’ experience with medium to large storage environments as Storage Administrator.
Advanced knowledge and 5+ years of experience in EMC VMAX storage arrays.
Advanced knowledge and 2+ years of experience in EMC Isilon NAS arrays.
Advanced knowledge and 5+ years of experience in Cisco fibre channel SANs.
Knowledge and working experience with Unix, Linux, Windows and VMware operating systems
Knowledge and working experience with Replication Technologies (SRDF, Recoverpoint, Metro Mirror / Global Mirror)
Knowledge and working experience with Unisphere, Timefinder, Snap, Clone and Mirror
Knowledge and working experience with Compression and Deduplication technologies
Good Scripting skills
Advanced understanding of storage, network, and hardware technologies.
Analytical and trouble shooting skills.
Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
A methodical and solid background in planning and completing of complex tasks.
Experience within a healthcare environment is preferred.
Knowledge and 2+ years of experience of IBM SVC, XIV or EMC VNX storage arrays is preferred.
Knowledge and experience with EMC XtremIO arrays is preferred.
