Job Description: The DB2 Lead DBA acts as Customer’s primary owner and point of contact for all DB2 environments. The DB2 LeadDBA is responsible for maintaining the physical structure of the DB2 environments, basic performance tuning, consulting with the development staff on changes to the structure of the database, and acting as the primary point of contact for production incidents. The candidate should be able to perform Windows Script and PowerShell coding/modifications and work closely with other developers.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the high availability of DB2 on Windows in production and DR environments
  • Support development activities through maintenance/refreshing of test environments and assisting with solution design and problem resolution
  • Assume ownership of database issues; pursue problem resolution and root cause analysis
  • Perform database maintenance activities such as database backup, restore, reorg, utilities
  • Plan and execute DB2 upgrade to the latest version
  • Monitor DB2 processes, logs, and performance for any anomalies and provide corrective actions
  • Analyze application SQL queries for performance improvement opportunities
  • Assist with the creation and modification of database objects (tablespaces, tables, views, indexes)
  • Evaluate capacity needs, change requests and installs and evaluate potential business impact
  • Provide 24/7 on call support on a rotating basis across platforms (DB2, Microsoft SQL Server)
  • Improve overall database security implementation

Desired Skills

A minimum of five (8+) years of prior experience demonstrating the following knowledge and skills:

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, interfacing with the development and infrastructure teams on a regular basis
  • Experience as a production DBA in support of client server software applications. Including: Catalog Tables, Load/Unload Utilities, Runstats, Explain Utility, Plan/Package Concepts, Bind/Rebind and DBRM
  • Experience in IBM DB2 relational database environments supporting two-tier client server software applications
  • Experience or interest in becoming proficient in day-to-day Microsoft SQL Server platform administration activities
  • Ability to diagnose database issues quickly and accurately
  • Design, development and performance tuning of relational database query scripts (SQL)
  • Experience DB2 support tools including but not limited to: TOAD for DB2 DBAs, IBM Data Studio, Database Brothers DBA Suite, DB2MON, SolarWinds
  • Experience in the development and maintenance of Windows batch scripts and PowerShell scripts
