Position Overview

We are seeking a skilled Payroll Tester Lead to support the testing and implementation of a new payroll system. This role involves working closely with project managers, developers, and business stakeholders to ensure the system meets functional, compliance, and performance standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with project managers and stakeholders to define payroll system requirements and testing strategies.

Create and maintain detailed test plans, test cases, and scripts for payroll functionalities, including:

  • Gross pay (salary, hourly, overtime, bonuses)
  • Tax withholdings (federal, state, local)
  • Deductions (benefits, 401k, union dues)
  • Leave management (accruals, usage, payouts)
  • Retroactive pay
  • Payroll journal entries and financial integrations
  • Employee self-service (pay stubs, W2s)
  • Reporting and compliance


  • Lead and execute System Integration Testing (SIT) and User Acceptance Testing (UAT).
  • Facilitate UAT sessions with HR and payroll users, document feedback, and ensure resolution of issues.
  • Identify, log, and track defects; coordinate with development teams for timely fixes.
  • Conduct regression testing to ensure new features do not disrupt existing processes.
  • Validate payroll data for accuracy and integrity across systems.
  • Provide regular updates on testing progress and outcomes.
  • Assist in creating training materials and user documentation.
  • Participate in post-implementation reviews and suggest improvements.

Additional Duties

  • Analyze business processes related to finance, accounting, procurement, and payroll.
  • Align system configurations with Oracle Fusion Financials and PeopleSoft modules.
  • Document workflows, interfaces, and data structures.
  • Use tools like JIRA, Confluence, Excel, Word, Visio, and PowerPoint for documentation and collaboration.
  • Conduct peer reviews and support Agile development practices.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in payroll systems and ERP testing.
  • Hands-on experience with Oracle Fusion Cloud (HCM, Financials, Procurement).
  • Strong background in software testing (SIT, UAT, regression, performance).
  • Deep understanding of payroll operations, tax rules, union agreements, and timekeeping.
  • Experience with PeopleSoft and Kronos is highly desirable.
  • Proven ability to translate business requirements into testable scenarios.
  • Public sector or government experience preferred.
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills.
  • Familiarity with Agile methodologies and tools (Scrum Master/Product Owner roles).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science or related field.
  • PeopleSoft certification.
  • Experience with UKG Workforce Central or UKG Workforce Management Cloud.
  • Exposure to cloud-based ERP deployments.
